‘Woman's Portrait’ combines the archetypal symbols of femininity with titles of photographic portraits dating back to the late 1800s, early '900, when photography was at its early stages.
The title assigned to each photo, appropriated from existing images and yet from them released, it helps to define the object photographed and to identify it as a person. The items, have been chosen among emblems which for centuries described woman archetypal properties (the onion and the rose as a labyrinth, the horizontal cut of the apple as a star, the shell in connection with the water and spring, the egg as a container, the seeds as fertility, etc.).
The juxtaposition of symbols, which are connotative, allusive, poetic and evocative elements of the language, with photography as a truthful mean to portray them, thanksto the contrast created, aims to question woman representation and identity.
"Ritratto di donna" combina i simboli archetipici della femminilità con titoli di ritratti fotografici risalenti alla fine del 1800, all'inizio del '900, quando la fotografia era agli inizi. Il titolo assegnato ad ogni foto, sottratto a immagini esistenti eppure da esse liberate, aiuta a definire l'oggetto fotografato ea identificarlo come persona. Gli oggetti, sono stati scelti tra gli emblemi che per secoli hanno descritto le proprietà archetipiche della donna (la cipolla e la rosa come un labirinto, il taglio orizzontale della mela come una stella, il guscio in connessione con l'acqua e la sorgente, l'uovo come contenitore , i semi come fertilità, ecc.). La giustapposizione di simboli, elementi connotativi, allusivi, poetici ed evocativi del linguaggio, con la fotografia come mezzo veritiero per ritrarli, grazie al contrasto creato, mira a mettere in discussione la rappresentazione e l'identità della donna.
